Relocation of Glenroy Specialist School – $17,096,000

Glenroy Specialist School is the largest DEECD school specifically catering for students with physical/multiple disabilities in the Northern and Western suburbs.  The design for the relocation of the school to its new site comprises 26 classrooms divided into three sub-schools, Junior, Middle and Senior/Transition.  Each pair of classrooms has a shared toilet/change area and each sub-school has a central area for special activities.  All classrooms have access to outdoor activity spaces or sheltered courtyards with specially designed soft-fall and landscaping features and retractable pergolas.  A feature of the classrooms are the north and south facing highlight windows that capture daylight and diffuse it to the classrooms through a series of semi-translucent baffles arranged to block out all direct sunlight and to maximise quality daylight into the learning areas. Other facilities include a Multi-Purpose Hall, Library, Art Room, Physio and Occupational Therapy Rooms, Audio and Sensory Rooms, and a Hydrotherapy Pool.  The administration area includes staff facilities and offices for admin and support staff, including a sick bay and medical support facilities.  The children attending the school travel by specially equipped buses from a large area covering Melbourne’s northern and western districts and specially designed covered drop-off facilities are incorporated in the project.

The building contract has been awarded to ADCO Construction and the project has been completed in 2012.
